Our History

Rocky Ridge Baptist Church is a small rural country church, located in the fertile farmlands of Southwest Georgia.  Rocky Ridge Baptist Church began as a mission church in September of 1962, sponsored by First Baptist Church of Donalsonville.  The Reverend Homer Estes, a student at Baptist Bible Institute, was the first mission pastor.  Over the next 15 months, Dr. Frank Cochran, Dr. Wright, and Rev. Dick O’Steen, would serve at Rocky Ridge before it was constituted as a church on November 17, 1963.  There were 28 charter members.  We’ve lost many of them, however, there are still a number of charter members still worshiping and serving at Rocky Ridge, today.

The congregation first started meeting in the old Rocky Ridge Presbyterian Church building.  It was built in 1950 and was located across the street from the current church, where the parsonage now stands.  Four Sunday School classrooms were added later, to the back of the church building.
The church grew in attendance and members and they needed more space.  In 1969, two acres of land, across the road were purchased from Mr. James Moore.  The congregation then voted to enter a bond program to build a brick church and Sunday School rooms.  The first service in the new brick sanctuary was held on November 30, 1969.

In 1976 the congregation voted to add an education building because more space was needed, as the membership had grown to 187.  In 1983, a large fellowship hall was built.  By 1988, the church was debt free and grown to a membership of 300.

This very well could be the most important thing you ever read!
